Paramount TV and Anonymous Content have acquired the rights to Icelandic author Bergsveinn Birgisson’s novel “The Black Viking”. The book is expected to be adapted into a television series and slated to be directed and produced by Norwegian Morten Tyldum (Passengers, The Imitation Game).

The book is the result of Bergsveinn’s search for traces of his ancestor Geirmund Heljarskinn, a powerful Viking king whose saga has disappeared. Bergsveinn lives in Norway and holds a Ph.D. in Nordic studies from the University of Bergen. “The Black Viking” was originally written in Norwegian and published in 2013. It has since been translated into Icelandic and other languages.
