At least eight cars crashed into each another at Holtavörðuheiði, North-West Iceland earlier today. Vísir reports.

The Police Commissioner received a report on the car crash at 1:12 pm local time. Police and other response-parties are currently on their way to the crash site. There are no suspicions of any serious injuries as of yet.

A large part of the country has been experiencing extreme weather, which is a likely cause of the crash. Holtavörðuheiði has now been closed and it is unclear when the road will reopen.

Live Webcams show that visibility is very poor in the area, as can be seen here.
