The Ferry Baldur is expected to sail to the West Fjords tomorrow for the first time in over two months, RÚV reports. Ferry service between Stykkishólmur, West Iceland, and the West Fjords was interrupted when the ferry’s main engine failed in November. Repairs are now in the final stretches.
Passenger ferry Særún has sailed twice a week to Flatey in Baldur’s absence, but it does not transport vehicles or cargo. A cargo ship was not contracted to sail over the fjord due to cost.
