Lilja Sigurðardóttir was awarded the Blood Drop, the annual award given by the Icelandic Crime Writer’s Association for the year's best crime novel. She won the award for her novel Búrið, or ‘The Cage,’ RÚV reports. It is the third installment in a series featuring “drug smuggling, financial crimes, and passionate love affairs in present-day Reykjavik.”
The judging committee commended Lilja for her well-researched and written book, saying that “it’s difficult to write a story that’s so close to reality, but the author carries this off admirably, doesn’t go in for condemnations, but rather dives deeper and considers the reasons for different crimes.”
The first installment of Lilja’s trilogy, Gildran, has been translated into English by Quentin Bates under the title The Snare.
