Sixty percent of Icelandic TV households watched the Iceland-Argentina match last Saturday, the highest viewership ever measured in the country for a sports event, RÚV reports. The data comes from a Gallup ratings poll.
The highest viewership during the match was measured at 2.54pm, which was the last minute of extra time. While the game was broadcast, RÚV enjoyed a 99.6% share of all viewership in the country, meaning almost everyone with a TV on was watching the game.
The second-most watched sports event in the country was Iceland’s 2016 game against England in the European Championship, which had 58.8% viewership.
Iceland’s next World Cup match is against Nigeria this Friday, June 22.
