Berry picking season is upon Iceland, but what with the wet summer that much of the country has had, yields vary greatly between regions. RÚV reports that the best blueberry and crowberry picking by far this year is in East Iceland, which has enjoyed considerably more sunshine than the rest of the country. North Iceland comes in a close second, while pickings are slim in both South and West Iceland this year.
Due to the sunny weather that East Iceland has experienced all summer, the berries there have already ripened and are ready for picking. Local enthusiasts say, however, that ten more days or so will be needed before the berries in the north part of the country are ready for picking in any significant quantities.
