61% of Icelanders support a total ban on the use of disposable plastic bags in stores. Large supermarkets have recently decided to stop offering disposable plastic bags to their customers.
More effort should be made to inform tourists that they don't have to purchase bottled water and to install drinking fountains at popular tourist sites. The committee also proposed banning single-use utensils at restaurants and to tax both these and single-use packaging.
Icelanders could be recycling their plastic using green energy instead of burning it or sending it abroad.
