Reykjavík Pride Begins

The 19th annual Reykjavík Pride kicked off yesterday when the festival president Eva María Þórarinsdóttir Lange and Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson helped to paint a rainbow walkway leading up to the entrance of city hall.

Up to 40,000 people gathered in downtown Reykjavík on Saturday for the annual Reykjavík Pride parade despite gray skies and cooler weather. As in previous years, participants made their way from BSÍ bus terminal down to Arnarhóll where a concert took place.

Viking Ship, no Nudity in Reykjavík Pride Parade

Icelandic pop singer Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson will ‘sail’ on a Viking ship “for the Icelandic settlement queens” in this year’s Reykjavík Pride parade, which will take place on August 8. Páll Óskar also stated that there will be no “tits and asses” in this year’s parade.
