Illuminated Crosses in Graveyards

A cemetary and a turf church in Hof, Öræfasveit, Southeast Iceland.

Q: Are there any cemeteries or graveyards around Reykjavik which have illuminated crosses during the summer? I realize it is a predominantly Christmas tradition for winter but I would love to see one when I'm there, nonetheless.

A: Most likely, you won’t see any illuminated crosses in summer. During the month of December, contractors offer customers crosses with electrical lights for rent. Some nurseries also offer crosses for sale with battery-powered lights, which can be installed at any time of year, although most people would only use them in December.
