The Iceland Writers Retreat will take place in Reykjavík, April 5-9, 2017. The twelfth and final author to lead workshops has been announced: Giller Prize winner Esi Edugyan (pictured). Other participating authors include Madeleine Thien, who won the 2016 Giller Prize in November.
Among Icelandic authors who have been confirmed are Einar Kárason, who will entertain participants on the Golden Circle tour, along with guide Sigurlín Bjarney Gísladóttir. Hallgrímur Helgason and Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir will also be speaking during the event.
On November 11, IWR Co-Founder Eliza Reid, Iceland’s first lady, will be participating in the Taste of Iceland festival in Toronto, speaking at McNally Books at 6 pm about Iceland’s literary heritage.
On November 26, IWR Co-Founder Erica Green along with some IWR alums will talk about the event and Iceland in general at the Library Ale House in Santa Monica from 4-6 pm.
