There are many very spectacular scenic views in Iceland. But this one, from a small layby viewpoint on Road 1 overlooking Hveragerði is one of my favourites. We always stop and get out to look at view whatever the weather. In many ways it's not especially spectacular, but the feel of the landscape tends to make 'goosebumps' on the back of my neck every time.
These days a wire barrier exists between the east/west carriageway so the viewpoint is only accessible when travelling east. The next time you are going that way, stop and have a look.
