The most extensive event on the Icelandic design calendar is DesignMarch, this year running from Thursday March 14 to Sunday March 17.

Taking place in downtown Reykjavík, this year’s festival consists of a record 150 events.

“DesignMarch offers a unique chance to see what is going on and meet all the local designers—plus a handful of the most interesting international names,” festival director Greipur Gíslason says in a press release.

Here are a couple of the highlights:

The event kicks off with DesignTalks, a day of lectures posing the question ‘From where does the magic of creativity originate?’ at the National Theater of Iceland by local and internationally-renowned designers.

The event is hosted by Hrund Gunnsteinsdóttir, who is described as a ‘dreamer, development and conflict specialist.’ Tickets available at midi.is.

Friday is DesignMatch, a type of speed-dating for design professionals from across the Nordic countries, giving local designers a platform for introducing their work to buyers.

On Saturday, head to the Town Fair, a selection of pop-up markets and exhibitions with hundreds of public events—featuring architecture, graphic design, ceramic, furniture design, product design, jewelry design and fashion design—across town.

DesignMarch runs from March 14 to 17. For more information, visit designmarch.is.

The fourth annual Reykjavík Fashion Festival (RFF), March 14-16, is being held in conjunction with DesignMarch.

Managing Director Þórey Eva Einarsdóttir states in a press release that the collaboration will create an important platform for designers.

“I think that the collaboration between DesignMarch and the Reykjavík Fashion Festival is very exciting; and together we will present the biggest fashion and design event of the year. This will create the platform to inspire new ideas, creativity and business opportunities.”

A number of pop-up events showcasing the work of various fashion designers will be held around town.

The main fashion show will be at Harpa on Saturday. For tickets, visit harpa.is.

RFF runs from March 14 to 16. For more information, visit rff.is.
