Preview: ATP Iceland Music Festival 2015

Tomorrow marks the first day of the highly anticipated All Tomorrow’s Parties Music Festival Iceland, held for the third time at the former NATO base Ásbrú, in Keflavík on Reykjanes peninsula, Southwest Iceland.

The festival will be headlined by rocker Iggy Pop of the Stooges; Scottish indie pop band Belle and Sebastian; San Diego based post-hardcore band Drive Like Jehu; hip-hop group and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Public Enemy; and Canadian experimental rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, among others.

Artist collective Bedroom Community, in collaboration with radio station RÁS 2, of the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, will curate the festival’s Andrew Theatre Stage.

Each has additionally chosen an act from an unsigned talent competition held earlier this year—CeaseTone selected by Bedroom Community, and Caterpillarmen chosen by RÁS 2.

Several notable Icelandic bands will also be featured, including Oyama, HAM, Grísalappalísa, Valdimar, Valgeir Sigurðsson with Liam Byrne, and Kippi Kaninus of Amiina.

Mogwai—the band charged with curating the very first ATP festival held in 2001 at Camber Sands in East Sussex, England—celebrates their twentieth anniversary this year, and so in honor of that, will be curating this year’s film program.

Among the films selected are American Movie, Don’t Look Back, The Exorcist, there Will Be Blood, and Rollerball.

There will also be a day dedicated to skate films, such as Propeller (a Vans skateboarding film directed by Greg Hunt), and the Six Stair films of Buddy Nichols and Rick Charnoski, including Fruit of the Vine, Tent City, Blood Shed, Northwest and Deathblow to Downtown.
