(The PM’s plan to revive a nation)
The bankers bombarded our nation
And brought us immense devastation.
They killed both our courage and pride.
Our candle of hope simply died.
We need to revive the old vigor
By building a symbol that’s bigger
Than any our country has seen—
A place where my court will convene.
I’m King of the Country of Geysers,
The man of the seven advisors.
A palace, they say, is the thing
That pride to this country can bring.
Oh, Dresden, you do so inspire!
You put my whole being on fire.
I’m digging up drawings of old.
Come, builders, and do as you’re told!
In the news:
On his Facebook page on Easter Sunday, PM Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson encouraged his countrymen to read about the reconstruction of Dresden while eating their Easter eggs.
In a surprise move April 1, the Icelandic government announced plans to introduce a bill, which would pave the way for the construction of a new building to house Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament. The building, based on drawings from 1918, would be considerably larger than the current one. The timing of the announcement led many to believe that this was an April Fools’ joke, but the story turned out to be authentic.
