Seatours offers specialized nature cruises from the town of Stykkisholmur with the ferry Baldur crossing daily Breiðafjörður Bay between Stykkishólmur on the Snæfellsnes peninsula and Brjánslækur in the north. A ferry ride considerably shortens the route between the south and mid-west of the country and the West Fjords region.
When crossing Breiðafjördur from Stykkishólmur to Brjánslækur or back, there is a stop-off at the charming island of Flatey where time literally stands still.
Among these tours are bird watching trips, tours to see life on the sea floor, ecology cruises and voyages to historical sites in the area. There's nearly a 100% chance of seeing the blue whale, the largest mammal on earth, during certain seasons of the year. One of the few places in the world where that is possible.

In many places you can find ferries across fjords or sail to islands off the coast. Some of these places are only accessible by ferries. Often the rides are adventures in themselves. You can experience birdlife and in some places you can even see whales. You also get the advantage of seeing the coast from the sea, just like the Vikings did more than a thousand years ago.
