Chris Hemsworth Arrives to Shoot ‘Thor’ in Iceland

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, the star of Marvel Studios’ Thor (2011), is reported to have arrived to the country this week, where scenes for the sequel, Thor: The Dark World will be shot.

According to visir.is, shooting will take place in Dómadalur valley by geothermal area Landmannalaugar in the south-central highlands.

Ruv.is adds that Skógafoss waterfall, Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon and Skeiðarársandur plains will also serve as locations for the movie.

Up to 300 people will come from the U.S. to work on the shooting in addition to the almost 200 Icelanders who will also be involved in the project. The film crew is serviced by Icelandic film production company True North.

British actors Christopher Eccelstone, best known for his role as the ninth incarnation of the Doctor in the series Doctor Who, and Tom Hiddleston, Captain Nicholls in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse (2011), are also expected to participate in the shooting in Iceland.

Filming is scheduled to take one week and the project will be among the most extensive film projects to have ever taken place in Iceland.

Thor: The Dark World is the fourth Hollywood movie to be partially shot in Iceland this year. The others are Oblivion, Noah and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
